Do EU marriage certificates need apostille in Poland?

My marriage certificate was issued in another EU country. Does it still need an apostille to be used in Poland?

## Short answer
Generally, no. EU Regulation 2016/1191 removes the apostille/legalisation requirement for certain public documents -- including marriage, birth, and civil-status documents -- issued by one EU member state and presented to the authorities of another, such as Poland.

## Important exception
This regulation does NOT automatically remove the need for a translation. A Polish authority can still request a certified translation, though it must accept one certified in any EU country. Authentication and translation remain two separate requirements.
