## Short answer
EU long-term resident status is an unlimited-duration status requiring at least 5 years of continuous, legal residence in Poland immediately before the application (the accompanying residence card itself is issued for 5 years and needs periodic exchange, but the underlying status doesn't expire).

## What this depends on
Not all time in Poland counts equally: time spent on a student, doctoral-school, or vocational-training visa or permit counts at only half value toward the 5 years.

## Documents / steps
You'll need a PESEL number and a Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany) to apply. The commonly reported administrative fee is 640 PLN plus 100 PLN for the accompanying card -- confirm the current amount with the competent office before paying.

## Important exception
Holders of this status can work in Poland without a separate work permit -- a meaningful practical benefit over a standard temporary residence permit.
