It depends on where and under what system your diploma was issued. Diplomas from within the EU, OECD, and EFTA, plus Ukraine and China, are generally treated differently from diplomas issued elsewhere. For a diploma issued outside those systems that isn't otherwise automatically recognized, universities typically require either a formal nostrification (a procedure establishing a Polish equivalent) or an "Informacja Dyrektora NAWA" (a written NAWA Director's Information letter on whether recognition is possible) before enrolment.
