If I'm in Poland on a national D visa, does that time use up my Schengen 90/180 days?

## Short answer
No. Under Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code (Regulation (EU) 2016/399), periods of stay authorized under a residence permit or a long-stay (D) visa are explicitly excluded from the 90/180-day short-stay calculation.

## Important exception
This exclusion covers your stay in the COUNTRY that issued the D visa or residence permit. If you take short trips to OTHER Schengen countries while holding a Polish D visa or residence permit, those specific trips can still count toward the 90/180 limit for the wider Schengen area -- the exclusion isn't a blanket exemption from Schengen rules everywhere, only from counting your authorized stay in the issuing country itself.
