PARENT OR ADULT CHILD

Joining a parent or an adult child in Poland

Poland's family routes are built around spouses and minor children. Parents and adult children only qualify in specific cases, mostly under the EU rules.

Question 1

Who is your relative in Poland?

Question 2

How are you related to them?

Your route

No family route fits: you need your own basis of stay

Polish law's family routes cover spouses and minor children (and EU family members in the EU rules). Other adult relatives usually apply on their own basis, such as work, studies or business.

  • The Act on Foreigners' family routes cover a spouse and minor children: Art. 158 for the spouse of a Polish citizen (and that spouse's minor child), Art. 159 for the spouse and minor children of a foreigner resident in Poland. Parents count only where the sponsor has refugee status or subsidiary protection and is, or was, an unaccompanied minor. Other adult relatives need their own basis of stay (for example work, study or business), unless the EU family-member rules apply.

If your relative has refugee status or subsidiary protection and came to Poland as an unaccompanied minor, a parent may qualify for family reunification. Ask Auranik.
